An oceanic civilization obsessed with eternal preservation locks away the last of several species, keeping them alive for longer than natural. For centuries, the lonesome creatures watched the world change around them, witnessing its preservers, visitors, and friends blink out one by one. Not even their cages are eternal, for it too succumbs to inevitability.
